So she’s sort of persona non grata [at work], but publicly kind of a hero. When Ruth arrives back to the former location of the Langmore trailers, Camila is already there waiting for her. The new cartel boss holds Ruth at gunpoint, but she doesn't back down – in fact, Ruth says she's not sorry, and even encourages Camila to pull the trigger when she doesn't immediately fire. Eventually, though, Camila does shoot, and Ruth dies. Cabrera is tortured in the same room Marty was back in season 3, under Marty's supervision. By the time the series nears its end, Ruth is seeing her entire family at home as if they are alive. Whether they are ghosts or hallucinations, it's a familiar trope in Greek Tragedy that the hero sees apparitions of those who have had died before they themselves meet their fate. Firstly, Ruth is a Langmore - who we learn from the outset of the show are cursed.
Darlene gave the Byrdes plenty to worry about throughout the series, even in the times where their interests aligned. The unofficial mayor of the area, Jacob Snell held dominion over the Missouri Ozarks with his heroin production business. With his wife Darlene at his side, the Snells entered an uneasy alliance with the Byrdes and the Navarro cartel. The deal was ultimately dissolved due to Darlene intentionally spiking their heroin supply, and it took a lot of doing on Jacob's part to prevent the Navarro cartel from killing her. Because there have been so many deaths in Ozark, and they've all been fairly relevant to the story, it feels apt to recap all the major deaths of the series thus far.
She'll have to keep on laundering money for the Navarro cartel, though, as part of the deal with the FBI and Camila. But, with the Bureau's official permission, she'll never get in any legal trouble for what she's doing. Jonah could have shot Mel to protect his family, completing the journey that sees him follow in his parents' footsteps. This interpretation also chimes with Ruth's conversation with Jonah's grandfather earlier in the episode where she mentioned him becoming a "little Marty." Charlotte, who has grown up in her mother’s image, seems more than happy to continue her work in the family business and escaped unharmed with the rest of her immediate family. It could be possible that Jonah shoots the cookie jar which contains his uncle Ben's ashes, thus dispersing the evidence of his death.
He becomes a key asset in Nathan Davis' attempt to get a court to separate Jonah and Charlotte from their parents, so Marty and Wendy have him taken out. Mundy did want the couple’s cohesion to seem like an outcome each spouse wanted by the finale.
